The application window is now closed for the 2021 US Youth Soccer William J. "Billy" Goaziou Scholarships. The memory of Goaziou, who was involved in soccer for more than 25 years as a coach and administrator, is honored with two one-year scholarships in the amount of $1,250 to be awarded to one male and one female attending a post-secondary education institution for the first time in Fall 2021. The scholarships are awarded based on community service and giving back to the game of soccer.
Goaziou served as treasurer of US Youth Soccer and the Florida Youth Soccer Association, as well as chairman of the US Youth Soccer Budget and Olympic Development Program Committees. In 1994 he took office as the U.S. Soccer Federation’s Treasurer and was re-elected three times (1998, 2000 and 2004). Beyond the soccer world, Goaziou also served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. 

2021 Female Winner: Helena Lehr


Biography: Helena Lehr lettered for four years and was a captain for two years at Chopticon High School. She played club soccer for St. Mary’s Soccer (SMS) Power, where she was also a two-year captain. Lehr helped guide Power to become Maryland State Cup champions and USYSA Eastern Regional Championships finalists in 2017.  She also earned two Southern Maryland Athletic Conference (SMAC) Honorable Mentions: Girls Soccer (Forward) while at Chopticon. Academically, Lehr is ranked fifth in her class with a 4.8 GPA. She will continue her education and soccer career at Fairleigh Dickinson University – Teaneck, where she will pursue a degree in dental medicine.

2021 Male Winner: Beckett Arthur


Biography: Beckett Arthur will be a 2021 graduate from Hellgate High School in Missoula, Montana. He has spent most of his life playing soccer and finished his years at Hellgate as Co-Captain for his 3 times Montana State Soccer Championship team, Co-Captain of the Hellgate basketball team and was selected as the Montana State Soccer Player of the Year, earning the Montana All-time Career Goals Scoring Record. Beckett has spent many summers volunteering at church as a camp counselor, helping with community service activities and assisting with weekly services. He has especially loved being an assistant coach for several local basketball and soccer camps. Beckett will be attending and playing soccer at Whitworth University in the Fall. Outside of soccer, Beckett enjoys basketball, snowboarding, kayaking and camping with friends and family.
